Two Blues for Havens Schatt and Valencia in Professional Hunter Divisions at Kentucky Summer Classic
Written by: Kendall Bierer
Client: Kentucky Horse Shows LLC
Release Date: 2011-08-03
Lexington, KY – August 3, 2011— The first day of the Kentucky Summer Classic started with a bang! Thunderstorms filled most of the morning, however riders in the Stonelea Ring rode without hesitation both before and after the storm. Opening day marked the beginning of the First Year Green Working Hunter, Second Year Green Working Hunter and High Performance Hunter classes. Leading the way in the First Year Green Working Hunters was Havens Schatt with Macallan and Valencia, while Holly Orlando piloted Sailor’s Valentine to top awards in the Second Year Green Working Hunter. Schatt also led the way in the High Performance Hunter aboard Valencia.
Havens Schatt piloted the eight-year-old stallion Macallan, owned by Tracy Scheriff-Muser of Wellington, FL, to a first place ribbon in the First Year Green Working Hunters, as well as a third place ribbon.
She also had success on her second mount of the day, Valencia, owned by CH Farm, LLC of Delano, MN, earning a first place ribbon and a fourth place ribbon.
“I really wasn’t supposed to bring Macallan here, but last week we showed at Blowing Rock and started to have a break through,” explained Schatt. “When I showed him today, I was a little concerned because I was next in the ring when it started to rain, we had to go back to the barn. With him being a stallion, he can become very focused, it made me anxious and concerned about what would happen when we came back, but he was perfect.”
Schatt’s second mount, Valencia, just started showing in June in the First Years as well as the High Performance Hunters. “Macallan and Valencia are complete opposites,” described Schatt. “Macallan is really scopey, slow and you always have to be after him to take you there, where as Valencia is a mare and is a little more like a thoroughbred in type. She has a lot more blood and likes to carry you a lot. Both are not spooky, have a big stride and are a pleasure to ride.”
Lexington, KY – August 4, 2011 – The skies stayed blue with sunshine shining down on the Kentucky Horse Park for the second day of the Kentucky Summer Classic. The best horse and rider combinations competed for top honors during their respective divisions in the Stonelea Ring for the First Year Green Working Hunters, Second Year Green Working Hunters, High Performance Hunters and Medium Performance Hunters.
Today in the First Year Green Working Hunters division, Havens Schatt, did not disappoint aboard Macallan, owned by Tracy Scheriff-Muser of Wellington, FL, as they claimed the championship prize. The duo earned a first place ribbon and a third place ribbon during yesterday’s classes as well as a second place ribbon and a fourth place ribbon today. “Macallan was really good today, I was a little nervous when I was schooling him because he felt lazy,” explained Schatt. “He has such a great time doing the handy, he came through today for me, especially since he is so scopey and easy to get to the jumps.”
